Escape

When I first moved to Switzerland as a stay-at-home mom to my son who was only 3 months old, I always looked forward to our weekly family adventures as we make long road trips to explore different parts of Switzerland. Living right smack in the middle of Europe with such easy accessibility, travel was my escape and solace from the daily humdrum of homemaking monotony. This is a collection of places that I have travelled to that have left an indelible mark on me.

When the Syrian refugee crisis happened, I was deeply moved by media images of civilians packing tiny rafts and rubber tubes and making the precarious escape by sea. I still recall vividly the unsettling image of a little toddler wearing a blue shorts, white shirt and a red safety jacket washed ashore with his body face down on a tranquil sandy beach. The exhibition, ESCAPE, which consists of all my ocean and water paintings helped raised money for the charity Action from Switzerland, that sought to set up a safe haven in Greece for women and children displaced by war in their home countries.
